Free Time Games by Devin Beaton

Today's extension is kinda like those old Famiclone multicarts, except it's actually worth playing.

Make your selection now!

This extension was made by Devin Baeten. This is another extension that contains multiple games that you can open and play at any time. This extension contains ports of classic arcade and computer games, several of which I reviewed in past posts. Much like my other game extension reviews, I will give all the games their own individual reviews.

  • 2048: It's good ole 2048, just like on the last two extensions I reviewed. Since I have nothing new to say about it, here's a joke; Why did the chicken cross the road? The side it was on had a KFC on it!
  • Agar.io: This probably plays the same as the classic port, but I couldn't tell you. I don't know if it's server problems or what, but I couldn't get this game to work. Fortunately, you can still go to this game's official link to play it.
  • Chrome Dino by Google: It's literally the Chrome Dino game I've reviewed a while back. It plays perfectly, but I don't have anything so say about it that I didn't say in this game's review.
  • Cookie Clicker by Julien Thiennot: This is a classic game that contributed to the rise of idle games. Your goal in this game is to make as many cookies as possible. First you have to click a giant cookie, but as you get more cookies you can buy things to make the cookies for you. The graphics of the game have a nice retro-feel to them, but there isn't any music or sound effects. It's a very simple game, but it's nonetheless a very addicting game. It's incredibly satisfying watching your cookie count rise, as well as buying things like clickers, grandmas, farms and other things to make cookies faster.
  • Flappy Bird: This is that old iPhone game that disappeared because the developer regretted making it so addicting. It has nice 16-bit graphics and a few sound effects in place of music. The controls consist of using either the mouse or spacebar to make the bird go up a little. This game is very simple; all you do is try to go as far as possible through a series of pipes. It's a pretty addicting game, but it can get pretty hard at times.
  • Pac-Man by Platzh1rsch: This is the same Pac-Man we all know and love, but this version has a few differences from the last two versions I reviewed.
  • Pong: It's Pong. It looks and plays just like the original version, except it's controlled via the mouse instead of a dial. In this version you can't control the ball's speed or direction at all, but other then that it's still a pretty good version of the classic game.
  • Slope by RobKaySF: In this game you play a ball rolling down a ramp trying not to hit any red blocks or fall off the path for as long as possible. This is the only 3d game of the lot and it has really cool, almost Matrix-like feel to the graphics. The music is also really cool. To steer the ball you use the arrow keys. This game is really fun, but there is one problem with it. The play again button on the game over screen doesn't work. You'll have to restart the tab if you want to replay.
  • Snake: This plays largely the same as the last two versions of Snake that I reviewed, but with two differences. For one the game loops around at the edges instead of stopping your snake. Secondly there isn't a pause button, or even start or game over screens. The game is just always going. That being said, it's still a pretty fun and challenging game.
  • Tetris: This is yet another classic game that is surprisingly on every extension I've reviewed thus far. It controls the same as the Arcade Classics version (left and right move the blocks, up rotates, down speeds up and space drops the block instantly), but without the hold piece and pause buttons. It for whatever reason doesn't have the Tetris theme and you have to zoom out a bit to keep your view from constantly changing, but other than that it's a really good port.
Personally, I think this is another really good extension for those who love gaming. It's not as good as Arcade Classics or Pothos Games, but it's nonetheless not a bad extension to have in case you get bored.
