Ruffle by Mike Welsh

If you thought Flash was dead, Ruffle is here to say otherwise!

Flash ain't going nowhere baby!

Who made it?: This software was made by a team consisting of Mike Welsh, Kmeisthax, Nathan Adams, Callum Thomson and Relreb.

Story: This isn't a game, but a Flash emulator. It uses software like Rust and WebAssembly to run Flash games and movies without the performance and security issues that got Flash discontinued.

Presentation: All of the games I tried with this emulator looked, sounded. and played like they did back when flash was the norm. As for Ruffle itself, there is a loading screen that pops up when you ru a Flash program that I think looks pretty cool.

How to play: You can download this either as an extension for your Chrome or Edge browser or as a separate application. Additionally, various websites like Newgrounds, The Internet Archive, Armor Games, Cool Math Games and Neopets have implemented the software into their websites.

Gameplay: I haven't tried the desktop app yet, but I can confirm that the web version works great. Most of the games I tried it with work just like they did with Flash. That being said, it's not perfect. It offers great support for Actionscript 1 and 2, but they're still working on Actionscript 3 support. Also and I no idea why, some games I tried with it wouldn't even work. These include the original Halloween Hangman (the game window wouldn't show up) and Bionic Chainsaw Pogo Gorilla (It would just replay the intro every time I tried to start the game). That being said it is being updated regularly, so it may one day be able to run all Flash content.

Final Verdict: While not 100% perfect, this is an extension that I highly recommend any avid Flash player to download. It really does help keep the old pluggin alive.
