Important message involving Flash

I apologize for the lack of game reviews in a while. For those not in the know, Adobe announced an end of life date for flash this year, when they'll stop updating Flash and most players will drop support for the plugin, including Chrome and Edge. However, this doesn't mean that Flash is completely dead. There are several ways to play games that are made with Flash even after the plugin essentially "dies".

  • Tom Fulp, the creator of Newgrounds, is working on a thing called "Ruffle" which is essentially a Flash emulator written in Rust. It uses WebAssembly to run Flash Player without the security and performance issues that led to the plugin's death date being set.
  • Speaking of Tom Fulp, Newgrounds has 2 different emulators for playing their flash games. One is the Newgrounds Player, the other is Flash Forwarder Tools.
  • BlueMaxima has a thing called FlashPoint. Essentially this is a project dedicated to preserving as many Flash games and movies as possible so they can still be played even when the end of date for Flash comes.
  • Obviously not every single web browser is gonna disable Flash.
  • The Internet Archive has a bunch of Flash games you can download and play on your computer.
  • There's a flash emulator called SuperNova that let's you play flash games in a standalone player. The extension also has Ruffle for if you want to play the games in the browsers of your choice.
