Feed Me! by Nitrome
When was the last time you ever played as a one-eyed, carnivorous plant?
Nitrome's little game stars a venus flytrap with a stretchy neck who must escape the green house. Along the way, it will eat many bugs and snails while avoiding rampaging produce and patches of thorns.
The game has a great 16-bit art style and some pretty catchy music. It also controls differently from most platformers: Instead of running and jumping, you must pull yourself around using the walls, floors, ceilings and various platforms. At the same time, you can also munch on bugs to extend your plant's neck. This game is really hard. You can take 5 hits before defeat, but your paths often have long patches of thorns that you must swing around. Some of the levels also have dropping tomatoes and rolling watermelons that you must avoid, plus some of the bugs can also harm you at certain times.
I believe that this game is worth a play, but victory doesn't come without a struggle. This is easily one of the most difficult games I've ever beaten and that says a lot considering how many other hard games are covered on this blog.
