Don't Look Back by Terry Cavanagh

Would you travel through the underworld to save your true love?
Will you survive going to the underworld and back or will you unleash your inner Angry Video Game Nerd?

This game was made Terry Cavanagh, the same guy who made VVVVVV and Super Hexagon. What we have here is an 8-bit, action packed interpretation of the Orpheus and Eurydice legend. The story is simple: You play as Orpheus and you travel through the underworld to rescue Eurydice. To help you on your quest, you get a hand gun for shooting down any demons that stand in your way.

As you can see from the screen shot above, the game is made to look like an Atari 2600 game. Despite this, the music isn't done in an 8-bit style. Instead, the music sounds like it was done on a violin. The controls are simple: You can move in 2 directions, jump, and fire your gun. You can also climb ropes if there are any nearby. This game is very difficult. You have to jump and shoot carefully to avoid the enemies, lava balls and falling stalactites that litter most screens. If you get hit by anything, you go back to the start of whatever level you're on.

In conclusion, this game is frustrating, but quite fun. It is very satisfying once you finally manage to beat it. Also, the music is absolutely beautiful. You can listen to it here.
