Who made it?: This game was made by a team over at Mozilla. At the link you can read credits for both the people who made this game and the people who made the Cube 2 engine that this game was made with.
Story: As this is just a tech demo, there really isn't a story here. You're just a Halo-looking dude fighting against AI controlled opponents in one of 5 arenas. For each playthrough you get 10 minutes to either fight the AI opponents or just explore whatever map you choose.
Presentation: The game has a nice 3d look to it, resembling an old Quake or Halo game. There's a decent tune during the load screen, but no music during actual gameplay.
How to play: There's quite a few controls in this game, so here's a short list.
- The mouse aims your player and left click shoots.
- The WASD keys move the player, while spacebar jumps.
- The 1-5 buttons are for switching weapon. There are 5 weapons in this game: A shotgun (multiple bullets per shot, higher damage at close range), a minigun (low damage per bullet, but fires rapidly), a rocket launcher (projectiles have travel time and explode on contact), a rifle (single, high damage bullets) and a grenade launcher (projectiles explode either on contact with character or after bouncing a few times).
- The ESC key exits the game.
- Either 0 or ` bring up the options menu, which lets you do things like adding or removing bots or changing the resolution.
- The E key toggles edit mode, which lets you fly around and edit the maps.
- The tab key brings up the scoreboard.
- The 9 key switches between first and third person views.
Gameplay: This is a surprisingly well-made game for a demo. It controls rather well and it rocks to win a deathmatch. One thing I find pretty cool is that every weapon in the game has varying degrees of self-knockback when fired, which adds some strategy to the game. One point of criticism I have is the ammo count. You only get 10-20 rounds for each weapon and the only way to get more is to die and respawn as far as I know. Another thing to note is that because this is such a big game, it can lag a bit on older computers and some of the larger maps might take longer to load up or maybe not even work.
Final Verdict: While it won't be a Halo killer, this is a really good game that I highly recommend you check out whenever you have the time, provided of course your computer is up to the task.
